Rod has been a member of the Australian PGA since 1986. Since then Rod has been a career PGA teaching professional. Rod spent his first 10 years as the head teaching pro at Ivanhoe Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia, followed by 10 more years as the head teaching professional at the Brighton Golf Academy also located in Melbourne.
Rods most recent position was as instructor at the VietUc Golf Academy Hanoi for the past 18 months prior to taking up his current role as Head Professional at Ba Na Hills Golf Club.
He has also spent 8 years working as a golf club technician for several major companies, including, Spalding, Taylor Made, Cobra as well as Henry Griffitts. Rod has a wealth of knowledge in the area of golf club construction, as well as club fitting.
Rod has taught over 50,000 lessons and finds the greatest satisfaction comes from bringing new golfers into the game and watching them grow into passionate golfers. His teaching style is based on an understanding that all golfers are different. Not everyone is the same build, flexibility or have the same levels of coordination. Therefore Rod brings a new approach to each individual student; finding the best potential golfer within each student is Rods main goal.
Rod utilizes the latest in technology, Trackman is used to assist in golf swing and ball flight analysis, training aids are used to provide the player exaggerated feel for swing development and Rod provides each student with appropriate drills that can be used during the lesson as well as at home to help fast track each students progress.Whilst in Vietnam Rod has participated in many Vietnamese television programs sharing his golf instruction and helping to grow the game of golf in Vietnam.
Rod has a great love for the game of golf and its very long history dating back over 400 years, however teaching in a country such as Vietnam where golf has only been played for such a short period of time is bringing Rod a new level of enthusiasm for his teaching and his ability to help grow this wonderful game in Vietnam.
